Bundie
Is there a way to avoid or clean up a mesh that has been exported from Revit into FBX for use in MAX? Atm there is so much triangulation its just not feasable for a large project. Any suggestions
Crazy Homeless Guy
Select everything in your Max model, and then drag and drop this maxscript file in the viewport. http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/autoedges ....also, what does Atm stand for?
hughie
Atm = At the moment thanks for the script, solves one of me revit issues:)
ctk111
The download on that page doesn't seem to be working. Where did you get the script from? Thanks.

Bundie
WOW, thats amazing you should have seen the smile on my face when it got cleaned up!!! So much easier to work with, thanks for that out of curiosity, how does it work? my poly and verts count is still the same. Has it just cleaned up for visibility and selection while maintaining the trianulation hidden in the background? either way its fantastic. Thanks again
RevitGary
Isnt Revit 2010 supposed to eliminate this triangulation? I thought it was. I just installed Revit 2010 and the triangulation is still there. Was I mistaken in the assumption? Thanks
Dave Buckley
where did you read this?? the triangulation was never in revit. it was the result of an exported fbx file when imported into MAx
RevitGary
Yes thats what I meant the triangulation when exporting A FBX from revit to max. I thought revit 2010 was supposed get rid of the fbx triangulation.
Camby1298
FBX is supposed to do a lot fo things (as promised by Autodesk) but its still in its enfant stages and is still being developed. Though I think Autodesk has made a good foundation platform for importing/exporting from one software to another, we just need to wait some before it reaches its full potential. hockley91
Okay, that script seems to be working great. That was very annoying to have the triangulation there in the files. It seems to me the only advantage of .fbx over .dwg is the mental ray textures and lighting. They all transfer over. However, from some Revit experience the textures are never 100% to begin with. Wouldn't it be better to just texture the model from scratch in Max since it's all going to be done that way anyway. It's like, why bother putting the textures on in Autocad when it's going to be done in Max. Same idea with Revit. Max has such great mapping tools, just don't even bother applying them in Revit unless it's just for information purposes, but not for final rendering. Plus, the .fbx file brought in all of these texture maps linked to the objects. The .dwg files bring in the objects by layer which is nice, and it's a clean model (no triangulation). However, the .fbx files bring in all the lighting that were created in the Revit model. So, for interiors, it was nice to already have the lighting in place. Those are just some of the things I've encountered. I'm sure .fbx will catch up and have more filters available for importing options. .dwg and .max have had years to work out the kinks of file translation.
