Vray Matte Shadow causes Sun Blowout

Hi All,

I am a bit stuck at the moment,

I have a Box room test set with windows punched out at the top, there are several vray lights in the scene and 1 sun source,

With a standard Vray grey material applied the lighting is correct with shafts of light entering the room from the windows on the right, plenty of bounced light etc,

Now when I turn the room into a Matte object to receive shadows only the sunlight acts as though the walls are not there

The Sun comes blazing into the room, this is not what I expect the shadows to look like using matte shadow

Many Thanks

Mark

Hi Stephen

Cheers for that, I dont know whether you mean matteshadow in max or vray, but I thought Matte shadow objects cast and receive shadows, correct me if im wrong though on that.

So if I had a ball sat in a box with a tiny square cut out to the right with a light shinging in casting shadow you would see a little square light on the ball and floor,

I get dubious about workarounds when there must be a simple solution for the hundreds of repeated questions about Matteshadow in Vray, I understand that Vray is a very sophisticated renderer,

I have a model in my scene with an image in the 3ds max viewport, you would expect to see the model sat on top of the background image, where as in fact the background image is blurred on top of the scene, is there any idea why this is,
