Jeff Mottle
Hi all, Wow, we certainly got a lot of submissions this year for the 3d awards. Up around 65% from last year! Around 1400 still images, 150 animations and a few dozen real-time pieces. This weekend I have my work cut out for me as I go through all of the images to determine which will go to the judges for final scoring. For this process I have to batch re-size all of the images. I know I can do this in Photoshop, but it's pretty slow. I've used IRfanView in the past as it is very fast, but it tends to add a lot of aliasing during the resize. Worst case I will just let PS run for a few hours, but if anyone has any other apps that have used let me nkow. I might give Lightroom a go too. Not sure if it will be any faster though. Crazy Homeless Guy
Once I read this I started to thnink about Flickr, and how it automatically resizes the images on upload. I did a quick search, and found a few items taht are specifically geared towards batch resizing. Though nothing I have used, so I can't speak to the quality... The first two were freeware, though one may watermark, the last 4 are shareware. http://www.snapfiles.com/reviews/bd-sizer/bdsizer.html http://www.snapfiles.com/reviews/web-resizer/webresizer.html http://www.filebuzz.com/fileinfo/54630/Photo_Optimizer.html http://www.filebuzz.com/fileinfo/40016/Batch_Picture_Resizer.html http://www.filebuzz.com/fileinfo/27475/BatchPhoto_Pro.html http://www.filebuzz.com/fileinfo/3648/Batch_It__Pro.html http://www.filebuzz.com/fileinfo/3585/Batch_It_.html
Jeff Mottle
Thanks Travis. I'll give those a try. My script also re-sizes on upload, but I only did one resize and forgot to create thumbnails. ooops. Oh well, I'll just go them offline and then upload them back to the server. Chad Warner
I've used Xnview before, and it has a batch conversion/ re-sizer built in. Plus it's free.

Jeff Mottle
Last night I gave Lightroom a try. I've used it for years, but never for renaming and batch re-sizing. It's MUCH quicker than Photoshop and has as much flexibility as many dedicated renaming apps. I was able to process two sets of thumbnails (around 2800 images) in about 30 min. ihabkal
rename your images 0123456789....etc... open 3dmax creat plane in the front view press .M .key chose diffuse button then select first image (( 0 )) chose override from the window ..... then chose rendering> render > chose active time segment ....fainaly press render button.............thats it ............ i think its good idea Jeff don't joke about it, 10 years ago a friend of mine used to resize images by rendeirng them on a plane in 3d studio 4 for Dos. He's a genius. Jeff, ACDSee has a batch conversion to any format and resizing function, it is great and has a lot of options. I use it all the time. Shane Gee
I never issue an image before sending it through lightroom. Best package out there, loads of features and very easy to use. Now all we need is a universal colour profile and monitor management package that actually works on all pc's and monitors and I will be very happy.
