Acheng
This scene is render with vray 1.5 and 3ds max 2009. I am not really sastify the rendering result. The lighting look very boring, any suggestion to make it more interesting? Edited May 9, 2009 by Acheng
innerdream
Are you using GI? Have you tried an HDRI yet? You can also lower the sun angle and change the color to warm it up like sunset. Put a sky in as well instead of the backdrop.
rmccoy
I would use some camera correction also
gerard
Hi I use mental ray. if you want to just try these settings. ****daylight system, with mr sky, mr sun in its parameters. ****In the environment setting select external daylight from presets. ****try different times of day also. with these basic settings you can get a better rendered image. Acheng
Thx for all input and comment. Actually i am majoring in civil engineering and not an architect or designer so my sense of art is really pitiful (colouring, texturing and modeling). I am not in any HDRI and nor mental ray, i loved stick with vray cause it pretty easy to set up for newbie like me. I will keep post latest revision scene. thx
Horhe
Agreed with all the comments posted so far. If your not going to add the surroundings, you could go for a more stylised look IMO. As for 'the lack of understanding of how an image should look and feel' like you said, its always good to look for inspirational images.
dgolden
First thing I notice is a lack of texture. It almost looks like vectors with all the solid colors and smooth gradients. Some texture/bumps would do a lot for it, in addition to the other suggestions.

manta
use the vray sun and sky...it looks like you are using a direct light plus GI which gives it a very washed out generic look...are you using vray materials ?

Derek Forreal
lighting is too even and too much - have you switched OFF the 'default lights' (in the Global Switches panel)?
