rendering an imported cad dwg (just lines?)

This is what I've done in the past..

 

In Autocad, print to a PDF..

then in Photoshop, save as a jpeg (or I guess a lossless format would work better)

Create a plane in max with the same proportions as the pdf/jpeg and apply as a material.

 

I'm sure there is a better way to do it, but that's my suggestion!

Or just plot to png straight from acad. You can set up page sizes just what you want (pixel count).
