Trying to subtract a solid shape from another and get the error message:

"New ef_int outside edge"...

Using AutoCAD 2009.

Anyone have any ideas on how to solve this problem? did a quick search and found this on the boolean error codes page...

- OUTSIDE_RANGE boolean.err new ef_int outside edge

Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thx in advance!

in the end I just re-modeled the problem areas... I will check it out some more tonight when I get home... talked to a friend in Seattle this morning and he says that it has something to do with the vertex of the object...

but being AutoCAD, I don't know how I would have screwed that up...

definately is "rare" as I have never had this before...

This is slightly reminiscent of a situation of a random case of 'intermittent isolated singularity'. This is somewhat similar To having a coplanar or duplicate vertices

was it a flat surface or a rounded undulating surface?

if you are subtracting a solid from a solid and just one edge or vertex of The subtracted solid remains outside of The subtracting solid

Then This anomoly might occur,

not sure if This is exactly The same, This happened for me in '97 using an earlier version of autocad, but everything from That point in The modeling would NOT render (at all or correctly) until we isolated and corrected The problem area

which sounds like just what you did

i ended up copying or modifying The 'subtracting' solid so That it always extended beyond The 'remaining' surface That was being subtracted from

kind of a PIA but it eliminated The random case of 'intermittent isolated singularity'

hopefully This is (somewhat) on Topic and helpful, i am not using autocad 2k9, yet

hopefully The software is somewhat improved by now
