WAcky
Works fine on Sp3 for me... You can't use the Vray VFB though.
bluediablito
hello thank you for the fast reply is there any way that you can tell me how you made it work (we have it in school it was installed during the spring break but vray was not updated and we still runing sp2) for some reason when ever i add the effect i render and i end up with a black screeen
WAcky
Go to the renderer window, Frame buffer rollout and untick "enable built in frame buffer" You will then be using the standard max frame buffer which will allow psd manager to work. Try that...
bluediablito
so it works perfect with vray no problems? there is no limitation the same thing i see on the tutorial i can do? i will try this tomorrow at school

gfriedman
I am having trouble figuring out how to get psdmanager working with vray. I made sure that the vfb was turned off but I am getting "error creating out put file" and no rendering. There must be a setting somewhere bc a blank new file will render a psd no problem. with my file which was all ready to go and render, there seems to be an issue - I feel like it has something to do with the render elements dialog - what should I do with all my vray render elements? active? enabled? WAcky
I just do what vray prompts me to. I think that means to have it all disabled? Not sure. Make sure you enable the Render Elements Output rollout in the psdmanager dialogue.
neil poppleton
Psd manager does not mask vray proxies, it masks the bounding box only, something to watch out for...
WAcky
Interesting. I never noticed that. I suppose you could do an extra pass using the rendermask script as a workaround.
neil poppleton
Or use the vray wirecolour pass. Nothing is ever perfect in life..........
WAcky
I just checked a previous render of mine and psd manager has infact rendered out a heap of proxies for me. I used the material ID method. Which method of the three did you use?
neil poppleton
We use the object output layer, but will try the material ID route. Appreciate the feedback.

WAcky
Neil, I just did a teapot test and it worked perfectly. I followed these steps exactly; 1. create a teapot and convert to proxy. 2. set its object id to 1 2. enable psd manager 3. enable G-buffer output ID output and object output 4. render. Thats it. Which versions of each are you using? I'm using max 2010 sp1 x64 vray 1.50.SP4 PDS man 2.1.0 if your versions are the same I will upload this test but a version difference is really the only thing I can put it down to. neil poppleton
James, I have just tested with simple geometry as a proxy and it masked perfect. The problem we have is when masking very detailed proxy cars, which it cannot mask.
WAcky
Hrm. thats wierd. Might be worth posting on the psd manager forums. Oh well!

Trick
James, When having proxied trees with opacity mapped leaves, does PSD-Manager render masks for these leaves correctly when using mat-ID ? It used to give problems on objects with thousands of opacity mapped planes over each other, like with dense trees/bushes !!
WAcky
It would appear to, yes. If you take a look at this post; the image there has a few trees, all of which are proxies with opacity mapped leaves and masked perfectly.
Trick
Sounds good !! I'm gonna take a look at it again, because it certainly would make my workflow easier.
