Pechara
Hey Gurus, I'm working on a football stadium rendering and was wondering if anyone knows of 3D models or 2D clip maps of American football players in action oth there. I looked and looked and cant find anything. (I found soccer and hockey 3D models, but not American football) Also by chance, if anyone has some custom models that they have made for a specific project or have a nice set of clipped photos of American football players in action, id be willing to pay for them. Thanks for any pointers or leads.
wizuby
Man! I had this same problem. I ended up having to leave them out because I just couldn't find anything that was any good. Good luck.

Pechara
perhaps its time to take the old digital camera to this Fridays high school football game and get some photos... heheheh. To all you guys out there who build content, here is something that I would actually buy. hahahah
Horhe
Good photo manipulation will look 100 times better than implementing a decent 3D model IMO. Go for photo libraries even if it means taking your own photos, which beats buying libraries and having to adapt your rendering to the perspective of the library. Pechara
Wow That Madden game looks amazing! Ernest Burden III
Wow That Madden game looks amazing! I would never suggest that you capture 3D content from a game and use it in your rendering work...but it is possible. People use 3D extractors (work best on Direct3D) to capture online avatars to make papercraft physical models with or send for 3D printing. Content ripped from a game results in an .obj or .exr (I think) that can be read by Max, with textures UV mapped.
quizzy
yeah you can rip models quite easy, even opengl (3dvia 3d printscreen) but you better save a lots of moneys.... for all the lawyers and lawsuits....
Ernest Burden III
yeah you can rip models quite easy, even opengl (3dvia 3d printscreen) .... You've gotten that to work? I never could. The Direct3D one I have. The lawyers...yeah, they'll get you. Just as soon as they realize the football team seen way down on the field in that rendering of a full stadium is really data captured from a consumer game you bought. Pechara
Well, I just decided to take some basic humanoid models from my collection and tweak them to look like High School Football players. You can only see them from far away so they looks ok. Thanks for all your advice, legal or not

John Dollus
Thought I remembered Viewpoint having football players back in the day. They sold the collection to Digimation: http://www.digimation.com/home/TheArchive.aspx?sm=vm just search for football man, can't believe they still charge an arm and a leg though

Dave Buchhofer
I went the same route last time, mucking up some textures of some axyz's real quick, it works decently. I tried to place them in a play from i swiped from some photo, from a distance it works fine, but they start to look pretty weak at 24x36.. alas, the crowd breaks down long before the players.
