MR: Grass

What do you think guys? I was tinkering around with MR displacement for the grass. Personally I still like VRay displacement grass. Or at least ubtil I can optimize this one.

Let me know if you'd like a copy of the material shader for this, I'd gladly email/post/share it.

I'd love it!! That's great of you to offer

I've tried to get people to explain how to do the Vray displacement grass with Final Render's displacement and I have not gotten a reasonable response yet (and it was posted a while back).

Thanks.

Quizzy: Its an MR displacement shader. There are two flavors, architectural material and a mental ray material shader. The one i posted is architectural using a displacement shader.

For those who would like to test my grass material, just email me. I dont have a reliable file host yet.

Plugins like shag hair and fur IMHO will continue to evolve as long as there is a need for their use. But for the purpose of the grass, displacements will do just fine.

I read in the mentalray list, that it has a built in hair geometry shader (MR 3.x), but just cant find it in MAX6.

I've been tinkering some more with MR displacemnts and found out its much more controls to play with.

And I've revised the grass material some more.

Also in the works are other materials that could benefit the edge+countour+displacment shader of MR.

For the meantime, which one is better? the 1st or the 2nd pic? They are both from different rendering engines.

I know, that whatever rendering engine is used, it all amounts up to the artist's skills.
