Displacement with Falloff

Hi,

 

I am currently looking to add some mr displacement for my grass textures, but with highways that stretch tems of kilometres, it's just not feasible. I'm investigating using falloff with distance blend, but I seem to be having some difficulties getting it to work correctly.

 

I have attached a max scene showing standard displacement on the left object, and the right object with distance blend falloff. As you can see, nothing appears to be happening with the falloff displacement (To show the near and far ranges, I have instanced the map into the diffuse slot)

 

What am I doing wrong?
