3dway
Can someone help me track down a 3d file viewer that packs the texture separate? I have a model that I'd like to be able to distribute to people who aren't 3d software users. I'd like the texture separate so they can take it into a painting application and modify the texture, then open the 3d file viewer and see their results on the model. Free would be best so the end users don't have to buy software, but can still have it for their own use, instead of having to bring a computer with an application installed to them. Thanks for any leads.
Stephen Thomas
The only formats I can think of that your average joe could view without specialist software is either a 3d pdf using Acrobat Reader, or a .dwf file using Autodesk's free Design Review software. None of those would allow you to alter textures though I don't think. You can load a simple .3ds object into Photoshop CS3 or CS4 and apply a different texture I'm sure, although that assumes a lot more of the client in terms of software and expertise.
