erickdt
Hello All, I am doing an animation and which requires that I add in RPCs. I decided that the best way of doing this would be to do a seperate pass for the RPCs and then composite them into the animation via AfterFX. I am wondering what the best way of doing this is. My ideal solution would be to have my RPCs in the scene while all other geometry is covered with a masking material that would generate an alpha channel that could be used to mask them in AfterFX. That leads me to a few questions though: 1.) As far as I know there is no way to save an alpha channel as an video file (avi file or otherwise). Is that correct or is there another way of doing that (an image sequence or such)? 2.) What would be the best material to use for my masking material? VRay material wrapper? Shadow/Highlight material? Please advise. Thanks in advance! E E
dinhtuan
1. Render to Tga sequence. Do not render animation to movie file, i allway render to .tga 2. Sellect all the object - right click - Vray propertice - use Matte on the top right conner with -1 value. Tick Shadow -alpha bellow if you need BR
erickdt
Thanks for the advice. I'm rendering now and ought to be done in ~30 minutes. So then I just drag the whole sequence into AfterFX? Nevermind. I've already done a test with importing the sequence into AfterFX and it works perfectly! Thanks again! I will use this method (image sequences) for exporting animations in the future. Edited May 21, 2009 by erickdt
erickdt
Ok, I am now running into another issue with these RPCs (Hi Res Business People). In the animated view, which is a fly around of one of the elements in the tradeshow booth I'm rendering with people standing around it (the RPCs in question) the RPCs are really jerky as the camera moves around them. Any way to fix this? Is this a VRay issue or something else?
John Dollus
well, i haven't used RPC content for years but i think I recall there being a jitter option that you should turn on to help with the jumping.
cleblanc
I think the high res content is not made for animation...

erickdt
I think the high res content is not made for animation... It turns out that this was the issue. Hi Res content was only created for still renders. The models used to create the RPCs were only photographed from 16 vantage points and the jitter function is not enabled for those particular RPCs. I'm re-rendering with Low Res, jitter enabled, people now. Thanks for the help everyone!
