Brute Guy
Hello all, I am using max 2008. Say I have uvw mapped an object (mesh from RHino 4.0) in my scene and then I copy that uvw map (right clicking on the uvw map and click copy) and paste it onto another object to create a like texture between the two. This seems to work fine with ungrouped objects. But I can never seem to paste a uvw map onto a grouped object? Is there something I am missing, or is it just not possible? Thanks Marc
erickdt
I'm ot sure if that's possible or not. One thing you could definately do though is open the group (group>open) and apply the copied UVW to the objects/meshes you want. Once you're done, select the open group (displayed as a pink bounding box) and close it (group>close).
Scott Erstad
try this - apply a UVW map to the group. You can now paste your desired UVW on top of that, then delete the one below. Should be good to go. Cheers,
Brute Guy
Thanks for your feedback everyone, Scotty, I tried your technique but unfortunately I couldn't get the group to accept the paste of the map, I did notice however that the uvw map that was orinally assigned to the group was written in italic, does this mean anything? Scott Erstad
Apply the map, then use the "acquire" tool at the bottom of the UVW roll out. When the modifier is italicized, it means that it is applied to multiple elements as an instanced across those objects. Have fun! From Max help... Acquire Effectively copies the UVW coordinates from other objects When you pick an object from which you want to acquire UVWs, a dialog prompts you whether the acquire should be done in an absolute or relative fashion. If you choose Absolute, the acquired mapping gizmo is positioned exactly on top of the mapping gizmo you pick. If you choose Relative, the acquired mapping gizmo is positioned over the selected object.
