Humble Request from the Owner of CGarchitect

Hi all,

As some of you may have seen in another thread here, I am no longer working at VisMasters as of this week. Another casualty of the increasingly shrinking budgets in the architectural market. The timing of these events could not have been much worse personally but, I am confident this will be a new chapter for both my career and this site. For the last eight years CGarchitect has been my second full time job along side full time employment at several different companies, one of which was VisMasters.

All of my energies will now be spent executing upon many of the plans I have spoken about for the last several years, but never had the time or energy to complete. Some of these plans I have commented upon many times in these forums and some are new ideas that have been waiting in the wings to be unleashed.

Over the last eight years many of you have contributed immensely to the success of this site through your advertising, your participation, your friendship and encouragement, and through the work you have allowed me to showcase. Now more than ever I will need the continued support of the community to help all of these plans succeed.

Over the coming months I will be calling upon many of you personally to participate in some of these plans, but as a community there are several things I could really use your help with now:

1. The advertisers on the site are what pay to keep the site running and allow me to continue working on it. Please show your support of our advertisers by clicking their banners, visiting their sites and when budgets permit, purchase their products. If you are able, let them know you heard about their products from CGarchitect.

2. If you frequent other software specific communities, beta test software, or are in contact with the people who run these applications and communities, let them know that CGarchitect is the community where you hang out and invite them to get in touch with me.

3. If you are interested in participating in some of the upcoming plans for the site, please get in touch with me via email at jmottle[at]cgarchitect.com or call me at +1 (403) 680-4907. I'd love to tell you about what I will be up to, and speak to you about how you might be able to be a part of it. I will be looking specifically for people who are interested in teaching, creating 3d and training content, new arch viz products, and having their own products brought to market. Just to name a few.

4. Let me know what you want from this community this year and in future years, and how I can help you and your business' succeed. Likewise, what can I do to help the many members of our community who are also now looking for work?

5. I will need a ton of help generating new content for the site. If there is a software you have always wanted to learn and would like to write a review, let me know and I can get a copy of the software for you. If you would like to write a regular column on the site to help bring your company to the forefront, or have a unique article you would like me to publish, please get in touch with me.

6. If you are interested in forming a partnership or collaborating on a new idea with me and CGarchitect, I'd love to speak with you about it.

Thanks for taking the time to read this post and I hope to hear from you. My door is always open.

good luck, Jeff - it's a great society you have made here! Any plans of expanding into book publishing? I'm a great fan of "Ballistic Publishing", but it would be great with something more directed at architects/ architecture viz.

Hello Jeff,

Sorry to hear it is tough time for Cgarchitect.....

I think with the visualization market slowing down and architectural companies interest to have their own in house vis staff. and the fact that young architects are more interested in 3d- rendering-cg .the future should be yours as there would be a huge demand for online resource of archvis.

As you know there was a huge boom in cgtalk with their cg portfolio and every body was encouraged to have an account and a cgportfolio even the guys who have their own websites, they have cgportfolio.and becoz of the great offers in cgportfolio they have a huge demand for their paid membership. Only I myself have paid for almost 20 people from Iran as there is no credit card in Iran but people desperately want that cgportfolio.

Having said that, maybe a visportfolio could do the same here.

smaller competitions could also help.

more interviews with individuals.

many of us are interested in matte painting, and many of matte painters have been architects.but i will not look for matte painting through here.although here should be a resource for architectural illustration.

Everytime time i am being asked by Young artists, how they can start their architectural visualization career, i advise them

to submit their work in cgarchitect gallery because they would definitely be contacted by potential clients then they can learn the job during actual projects and practice on standard projects. This is my own experience,I started my career by submitting images in my cgarchitect gallery. and i love and appreciate cgarchitect.

I think it also would be good to change the whole graphic of the site. we need more exciting stuff here!

Thank you to all who have pledged their support for my new plans this year and for the well wishes. It's certainly been a stressful last few weeks.

I have so far received almost 50 emails from people offering to help, which is heartwarming. The first big push is going to be on the front and backend development of the site, so if any of you are PHP and mySQL gurus or have anyone on your staffs who are, please shoot me an email ASAP. jmottle@cgarchitect.com

Likewise, if you have not already done so, and expressed interest in helping out via in this thread, please also email me so I have your direct contact information. I'll be reaching out to everyone personally once I get things sorted on my end.

Thanks again to all of you who have offered to help out!

Cheers,

Jeff

Yes, tough times for everybody. Keep it up.

CGArchitect has enough power. It works pretty well.

The only real "MUST" is a system allowing larger images in the gallery.

budget problems everywhere. It's time for quality improvement and less profit :)

Thank you for such a cozy welcome.I am an aspiring designer in the field of architecture and therefore I am always interested in joining forums of the poeple with similar interest. In doing so I believe we can exchange ideas and positively critique each other and hopeful we grow into better proffessionals in our respective fields:)

this site feels like home..

btw, I too just went into the brave new world being a statistic of layoffs...

so being only months from being 65 and hundreds going around seeking a job... the office I was working for was getting 3 calls a week from people seeking work.

I decided it was a good time to go free lance, espicially too with SS no auto deposited into my account...

gives me some backup..

anyway too, looking for advice, from those who are well seasoned at freelance.... I have started picking up some

work from those whom I have worked for before.

I have deeply appreciated this site I will probably become a very heavy user from now on.
