Tim Fairbanks
Importing SketchUp from AutoCAD DWG format works better - you don't get triangulation of the mesh like you get with .3ds. (i.e all mesh edges are visible with .3ds meshes). There are also fewer problems with object names getting truncated. If you DO have to use .3ds, there are some free scripts available that will help to automate clean-up of the visible triangle edges. Here's a link to one: http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/quadrangulate Regarding tracing and extruding... In my experience, it's easiest and best to "trace" your splines in AutoCAD as Polylines (PLINE) on a new/separate AutoCAD layer. Draw the Polylines in a counter-clockwise direction if possible, avoid overlapping vertices, and Close the Polylines after creating your last vertex.
