Jason Matthews
I can't believe after all these years I am asking such a base question. In sketchup I typically make the mullions of a window and group it and then make the glass as either a simple plane (normals facing out) or a box with a 1/4" thickness and then make the entire assembly a group or component. The question is; is there a special way to create glass that translates better to 3D Max and Vray? The reason I ask is because all of my exterior renderings that look at the glass from any less than like a 45 degree angle just shows up as black inside the building. Thanks guys and gals. Scott Erstad
Jason, I am by no means a SU guru, but I know a few things here that seem to make SU models that are brought into Max work better. 1- Every object needs thickness 2- No reversed faces 3- Render with "2 sided" checked. Having said that, I will always prefer to build my own stuff in Max, but schedule, work flow & budgets do not always allow for that. I typically will replace the glass with new geometry in Max if time permits. As you know, for many Arch. scenes, the viewer has to be able to read a surface as glass, and it must be relative to its intended design. Good luck! Jason Matthews
Thanks for the reply, Scott. I am guessing that I need to replace all the glass with a plane in Max. I do all as described below.
