I've had my eye on this monitor for a while. It is regularly on sale. I would say it rarely remains at the full retail price for more than a week at a time. This review got me interested in the monitor, and it includes very detailed measurements of its color accuracy using different calibration methods. Dave Buchhofer
..and that you would know "why" it would have such a price tag. Simplifying things a lot, there is a big gap between the (Gamut) contrast/depth ratios of a projected film and an average LCD or print, the big money displays are meant to more closely show what a projected film looks like. same concept as HDR

Derek Forreal
hey, what u guys think about this monitor? interesting price for an IPS panel i've been looking for a new monitor for some time now but am unimpressed by just about everything on offer it just seems to be that pretty much all lcd panels suffer from brightness uniformity issues and/or tinting which is the last thing you want when you buy a 'hi end' panel. i'll probably end up bending over and buying one anyway, but i think it's really bad that with todays technology, lcds aren't a lot better (does anyone know when OLEDs are arriving)? another thing that bothers me is that the standard seems to be tending towards 16:9 screens which i think is another step backwards when it comes to workstations. my 2c. and for what it's worth, a good review here: http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/nec_ea231wmi.htm and a ridiculously long thread here: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1436160 Edited March 14, 2010 by derekforreal edited to add
Grohu
I was looking to get a monitor setup not so long ago and after weeks of reading I decided to go with NEC 2690wuxi2. I couldn't be happier. It's easy to tame, colors are accurate, viewing angle is awesome and loads up pretty fast. It's quite big though and you need space for proper ventilation. http://www.necdisplay.com/Products/Product/?product=8899a96d-28dc-484f-a4de-14309a636738 Edited March 15, 2010 by Grohu
