Greg Law
This is a very basic question. I'm using Max 2009 design. I can't find where to turn off case and recieve shadows on 2d trees. I have done some tut's on this but the dialog boxs don't match mine and I can only find the turn off shadows in the objects properties, which doesn't work, while the tut's show a dialog box with turn off shadows and turn off receive shadows. I have looked everywhere for this box. The "help" doesn't help. What am I missing?
bev.lynn
Select the object, right-click, select object properties.
Greg Law
Select the object, right-click, select object properties. Thanks for the reply. This is where I used to do it in the old days I think. But I have been into that dialog box and it doesn't have the don't receive shadows and when I uncheck the receive shadows it still casts a shadow on it's self. Also it doesn't look like the dialog box in the Tut's. This is where I'm confused.
bev.lynn
Did you uncheck Receive Illumination on the Adv. Lighting tab? That's all I can suggest based on the information you've provided so far. What tutorials are you referencing?
Greg Law
Bev sorry for the delay getting back. I'm using the 3dats book tut's for making 2d trees. I was wondering if my problem is based on the fact that I'm using the daylight system. While the tut's use a standard light system. As for you advice to turn off the receive illumination will that make the trees dark? Would I need to add light for them? If so it seems what used to be a simple process has been made a lot more complex for no reason.
Brian Smith
make sure your objects properties (when you right-click the objects) is set to 'By Object' rather than 'By Layer'. you should post a screen shot to illustrate the problem if this is not it. bev.lynn
Seacondor, I did a screen capture of the object properties. Thanks for chiming in Brian! I was trying to figure out what else he could be referring to.
Greg Law
Thanks Bev and Brian. I must have been having several weeks of senior moments. Until you marked it clearly I didn't see it. May be because it was greyed out and I had gone into the lighting section where it had a shadow switch which was a bit of a red herring for me. But I still am very red faced about not seeing the main section when it was starring me in the face. This is what I was looking for. Once again thankyou. Brian I had other look at your book and it doesn't show the dialog box I have refer to I must have seen that in another tut over the last few weeks. This would explain the proporties box looking different. Thanks both of you for your help.
