Light Setup

I am trying to recreate the look of the light on the right in the attached image and am not getting anywhere close. The issues is achieving the gradient from a white light (at the top) to a purple light (at the bottom). Any recomendations on achieving this affect, other than post?

I'd make a VRay light material with a gradient that makes the desired tranisition. Apply it to the geometry, right click on the geometry, click on VRay properties and crank up "generate GI" to 2 or 3. Then, you can add a glow through the standard MAX effects.
