Jdnelsen
Hi all, I am trying to create a scene in 3d studio max and want to create an omni light, which I can do, but I cant figure out how to get the omni light source to actually show up as a ball of light...or for a spotlight, creating a ball of light in the can lighting in the ceiling. Any help would be great. If this doesnt make any sense please let me know and I will try to describe it better. Thanks everyone, Jon Nelsen jdnelsen@gmail.com
anton
It all depends on what rendering engine are you planning this for... If scanline then you'll fake it by adding an object that represents the light source's geometry with a self illuminated material and excluding it from the camera. This would also work in MR or Vray. If using Vray you can actually make that object be the light source. I am not sure if this works with MR though.
dean@pikcells
The omni light doesn't have any physical properties, you can't render it. you need to model the light source (ie a bulb) and give that some self illumination materials. Also try asking the in 3DS max section of this forum.
Clanger
If your using a Mental Ray light you have a check box to 'make light visible in render' then it just needs to be set to a sphere with the right radius, point light by default.
WAcky
Or you could add a glow post effect with max...
