dutch
has anybody actually tried this? I'm trying to see if I can use a friends machine to help on a couple heavy renders i have to do. What ports does vray use for this? Would I have to setup a vpn?
BrianKitts
Yes people have tried an it's possible although typically not practical due to the amount of data that has to get transferred over to the remote machine to render.
SandmanNinja
agreed. The bottleneck when doing any sort of distributed rendering (even on a Local Area Network) is the network throughput speed. If a 100megabit/sec network speed is a limiting factor, just image a 1.5megabit/sec speed issue. I reckon the CPUs would be sitting there, watching their clocks, going "When is the next bucket of data coming through?"
dutch
You guys are right. I managed to get it working with VPN Software, and it worked with a small test scene, but my larger scene had no chance.
