stormblast
As the title suggests. Is there any alternate software similar to vrayscatter. Something that is free & works with vray proxy.

jinsley
can also try out "scatter" created by Peter Watje... http://www.max3dstuff.com/max4/scatter/help.html I like it and it works great for doing multiple proxies at one time. -JI

Ricardo Eloy
Advanced Painter is probably one of the best available.
danb4026
I have never been able to get Vrayscatter to work right. Objects are always offset from where I want them and a 1000x larger than the original.
Trick
Daniel, Before saving a mesh to a proxy, do a Reset XForm, collapse the stack and then place the pivot point where you want it. After making the proxy, check again that the pivot point (of the proxy instance that replaces the mesh) is where you wanted it or else repeat !! Cumbersome but often needed ! danb4026
Erik, should the pivot point be placed relative to the proxy object or placement object? I had to place the vraymesh object in the center of my placement object to get the proxies to be scattered on the placement object. I just created a plane as a placement object and a box as a vraymesh object. I will post the render to show you what I end up with. Takes forever to render this simple set up. Wait till you see this mess...takes about 20 minutes to render a simple plane and a proxy box. Edited July 24, 2009 by danb4026
danb4026
ok, I gave up on the render after 54 minutes, but have the partial render attached below. It is supposed to be a 10'x10' plane with scattered, black and white checkered boxes (approx 1.5' high and 1' deep). The boxes are proxies. Below you can see the screen shot of the viewport....the proxies sit on the purple plane. I only wanted 25 proxy boxes, but got a trillion. When rendered, the proxies take over the universe. I have no idea how to get vrayscatter to work correctly.
Oleksandr Kramer
At you a problem with a licence key. Check up version Vray and conformity to it established VrayScatter. Most likely at you Vray SP3a or SP3b - establish corresponding version VrayScatter (for Vray SP3) Upgrade VrayScatter to latest version. But most likely it is connected with a key of licences I had a similar problem P.S. For correct job it is necessary to have the rights of the administrator. If you work in Vista disable UAC. sorry for my English.
