Exporting to AutoCAD

Is there any way when exporting SU 3d models to CAD that you can convert the groups into solids? Auto cad has some useful commands for editing solids like Union, Subtract and Intersect, but they don't work on any of the Sketchup exported models.

until autocad 2010, i'd have to say 'no' (or at least it would be difficult) since the sketchup objects would be surfaces, not solids.

however, in 2010 there are some new features for converting surfaces into solids...have to admit, i haven't tried them much myself, but it might make the conversion to solids much easier.

i might give it a try later today and see.

We are using autocad 2010 at the office but having to play around with converting the faces to solids sounds like it could be a lot of work.

We are creating our 3d models in autocad now that way we can generate section planes from them while at the same time as we get the model ready for 3dsmax.

Before we would do the models in SU and still have to do all the section drawings seperately or import a section plane from SU but those have a bunch of lines over lines and are kind of messy to work with.

I had hoped there was a way to do this because I prefer working in SU but seems like a lot of extra work if it is even possible.

i typically do most of my modeling in autocad and i use the 'sectionplane' tool for solid modeling as well.

but if you're also using MAX, why not try the 'slice' tool to generate your sections ?

that way you wouldn't have to do any autocad conversion ?
