Arnold Sher
...so we have issues at our hands... We've been requested by our client to proceed with an animation that initially was done in max 9 but then we moved it onto max 2009 which would be fine if we would not have problems with RPC which apparently now you have to buy a license for, which i find completely rubbish, as we've already paid for cars and people that we wanted but now we cannot use it. Now i do not want more of their products, i just want to use it for what i've already paid. On top of which i do not understand their 3 plans. Can we just get a basic plan and will we be able to use our animated people that we already own within that plan or do i have to buy the ultimate plan which would really annoy the hell out of me... Please would someone advice... Thank you for your help...
Justin Hunt
We had the same issue, at the end of the day we decided to purchase a 5 seat, ultimate plan. Yes it has given us access to all the content, yes they have the right to make money, but it is annoying non the less. Now that our 1 year anniversary is up and we have to renew I cant use RPC until the licenses are updated. Yet another reason making it easier to drop RPC's altogether. Just a pity that we have so many projects that need them. jhv

Devin Johnston
Archvision is on it's death bed as far as I'm concerned. The moment they decided to charge for not only the content but the plugin and screw all the people who had been using their dated software they sealed their fate. Pictor
had the same problem and I agree it's ridiculous buying something then having to pay again to use the bloody content you've already paid for. Nuts. You can just buy the plugin on it's own; http://www.archvision.com/ContentDetails.cfm?BundleID=09013-2009 After adding it to your shopping basket put in the promo code 'Max2009Up' and you should get it at the reduced cost of 149 bucks. Sucks I know even at that price but like you we had no choice..

Yes, they have the right to make money, but I don't see too many people getting into this unless they are in a current situation like arnold and are forced to dish out some moola... Like Devin said, I think they are almost dead in the water and are making one last grasp at the cash. Edited July 9, 2009 by jinsley

I have dozens of libraries of RPC content bought throughout 2003-2006. when i had to seperately buy the plugin for max 2009, i took it as an insult, but went through with it anyway since it stated that it had special added support for mental ray. After re-rendering my first max 2009 animation a few times due to RPC issues, i had sworn never to use them again. I find myself now ridiculing any junior architect in our office whenever those 3 letters come out of their mouth... i automatically put a cross on them... lol.. even the ones i actually liked; before they mentioned the letters R P C. For me, RPC really reads RIP.
Justin Hunt
There are only two things I like with RPC, Parkinglot cars and finally the ability to adjust their gamma so they render with better contrast. jhv
