neko
this seems like a simple / stupid question, but i'm having trouble with my default file when starting max. everything that i've set up (grids/units) seems to stick, but the default materials in the material editor always show up as materials from an older project. i've reset the material slots, condensed them (?) and restored them and i still get my random bunch of materials showing up in the material editor when i start. i've checked all the paths and location of the maxstart.max file - everything is fine. i even drew a box and saved it to make sure it was working right. the box is there when i start. basically - how do i get rid of theses materials ? i just want to see the default undefined materials in all the slots. cheers. Crazy Homeless Guy
Try over writing your 'medit.mat' file with the material palette you want on start up. It can be found in the 'Defaults' directory, which is where the DesignViz/Max/Max.mentalray/etc.. profiles are stored.
neko
excellent - thank you travis. i saw that library in the defaults directory and wondered where it came from. wonder why/how that was created though ? it definitely seems to be made up of materials i was trying long ago on a project.
