Chog Burley
hi all, please can you help me! on the attached image you can see some speckles where a white mia_material is reflected in other glossy surfaces. the white mia is set to 'matte material' preset. if i change these objects to lambert the speckling goes away. i have tried many options for the reflecting surfaces too with no luck. the scene is lit with physical sun and portals on the main window. using maya2009 many thanks, CB
toddevan
I am having the same problem only more severe... The glass looks very speckled when view it from an eye level perspective. However, it looks fine when viewed from above. I have tried multiple glass materials, downloaded, mia, dielectric, all with the same problem. My hunch is that it is a problem with my render settings, and not the material, but i haven't been able to figure anything out. Any suggestions? Matt McDonald
How many glossy reflection samples are you taking? I don't use Maya so I could be off base but it looks to me like you need to up the number of glossy samples.
toddevan
I upped the glossiness samples to like 32 (from 8), but then my glass turns black... and cant see through it at all.

Matt McDonald
I think that you want the glossiness on the glass to be 1 and then there will be no glossy samples. I guess I was referring to the samples on the wood material and the metal in the second rendering.
toddevan
RevitGary - that link was very helpful, and i think that is a similar problem to mine. However, i am using mr for maya and that post is regarding mr for max (i think) so i wasn't sure what some of the stuff they were talking about was referring to. Elevation - this particular glass that im using doesn't have the glossy samples slider, but i was using one earlier that did. I still had the same problem when i set the glossiness = 1 I have have been tweaking my settings, its a little better, but i still have speckles. Can anyone see anything that i am missing/doing wrong? Glass Mat:Render settings:
