kevin miller
When importing a sketchup file by material into a 3ds file, I notice that even on flat planes there is quite a bit of triangulation at times. These mesh "faces" are usually 3 point meshes. My question is can I selected these faces in max and merge them into one? i have tried deleting the segments but I lose the entire polygon containing these faces. I do not think they hurt anything but I am sure it adds to the geometry count for an animation. Thoughts?
SandmanNinja
You can delete the individual polys then switch to the border select tool and select the border that they all connected to. Then hit Cap and you have a nice, clean poly.
JonRashid
All polygons are made up of triangles. If your mesh is untidy you can recap. However if it is a visual untidiness your dealing with select edges and make invisible in order to choose what polys are defined. It is the visibility that max uses to define polygons.
