Tim Nurse
Hi all, until now I've been using Mental Ray for external architectural scenes. Mental Ray tends to crash with memory errors when the poly count gets high - so I've had to render those scenes in 64 bit. My question is - will v-ray have the same memory issues as mental ray for high poly scenes? Also - does v-ray's performance improve significantly in 64 bit? Thablanch
For the 64 bits, Never seen such thing as Vray crashing on 64 bits.. For 32 bits, it can handle quite a lot.. but it can crash as well.. Vray as work around to limit memory usage, and getting stuff trough. With the Vrimg format, you can get almost anything to render in 32 bits.. So, yes it can crash, but with a couple tweaks, it will render..
Nic H
more to do with max and your hardware than vray / mental ray really.
WAcky
yeah but vray can use your memory in different ways to conserve memory. Read this section (down to the heading; "render region division") for an idea of its flexibility.
