Clanger
One way is to use a blend material. put the background material in slot 1 the decal in 2 plus a matt for the decal in the mix slot. Now add two UVW Mapping modifiers to the stack changing the map chanel to 2 for the decal one then in the mix material point the decal bitmap also to map channel 2. SandmanNinja
From my notes - hope they make sense: Combing logos with Materials 01) make a multi-subobject with 2 slots - one for colour/base material and one for logo 02) IN THIS EXAMPLE, the base colour is an A&D Material - set the DIFFUSE LEVEL to 0.3 - lets the logo show through 03) COPY the material from the first slot to the second slot 04) In the 2nd slot, click on the MAP button next to Colour, load the logo graphic in, and set the channel to 2 05) in the stack of the object, put 2 UVW Mapping modifiers - first is logo (channel 2, planar), 2nd is base colour (channel 1) 06) Logo mapping is set to Planar
Dave Buckley
slight problem the material on the object is actually a multi-sub object in this there are 2 a&d materials for example shiny yellow material 1 rusty steel material 2 the logo needs to go on the shiny yellow. luckymutt
You can use a blend material in a multi-sub material: In the "shiny yellow" slot of the multi-sub, place a Blend. Slot 2 of the Blend gets the "shiny yellow." Slot 1 will get the material with the logo bitmap in the diffuse. The mask slot will get the logo's mask. Now you can control various reflection properties and such of the logo itself in a different manner than the "shiny yellow." You could use just an A&D and a composite map in the diffuse, but you won't have that seperate control. To do that, put a Composite map in the diffuse slot, make 2 layers. The lower layer will get just a color (go into the map button and use the color swatch) The upper layer will get the logo image and an alpha map for it. Dave Buckley
i'm just a big nob (a massive one) i had it right all along, it was working perfectly fine the thing that wasn't working was the fact i was trying to position the decal with in the viewport but i couldn't see it, no matter what i did with UVW maps, tiling, alpha channels, composite maps etc etc etc i forgot to push my little checkbox to show the map in the viewport. ok you can all have a laugh now
