Newbie..Helix along a path??

Recommended Posts

Hi,

This is my first post on CG, (Yay)..so please bare with me.

I am still learning C4D with every bit of spare time that i get, bt unfortunatley, a long way from where i need to be.

I am busy designing a walkway for for a hotel development here in South Africa. However the walkway needs to be surrounded by a steel spiral tube.

I am having trouble making the tube follow a path in C4D.

Could someone please show me how to setup the objects in the object manager to create this effect. i have attached a snap shot of what i have setup so far. You can see the highlited polyline that i need the helix to follow.

Please note that i also need the spirals within the helix to be 1200mm apart, as they (roughly) are now.

Cheers

Jared

You could use bend deformers with a little patience. Create the helix, drop the first bend deformer, once you got the first twist matched to the shape you are after, drop a second deformer put it in the middle where the next curve is and adjust accordingly and so on... Adjust the helix height if it doesn´t match at the end or begining, could also make the helix editable and remove points once you got the shape set but are strugling with either end.

Thanks so much. Its exactly what i needed.I knew it had something to do with Bend deformers??, but the spiral wouldnt bend when i applied them. I see now that it was just the hierarchy setup in my objects manager that was wrong. I see what you mean by the ends of the helix..they seem to drift off the path a bit.
