Richard McCarthy
In VRML, it's called LOD (Level of Details).. which automatically switch high res model to low res model depending on your distance. If you are using it purely for visualisation, I recommend just using VRML. I will be interested if there are such plugin for MAX/VIZ too..
kid
Yes, Max has the LOD, Level Of Detail utility already, no plugin needed, although there are probably plugins available which do it better Sorry, don't know if C4D has it, maybe just do a search of the docs for LOD. Cesar R
Is there a tool in C4D that will make the camera subtitute a high res model for a low poly on depending on distance? this is something I have heard of in LW, I was wondering if it was in c4D also...? jackb602
Cesar, Yes, you can control Level of Detail for the scene as a whole, or at the object level. To set it for an entire project, go to Edit -> Project Settings. To set LOD for an individual rendering, go to Render Settings -> Options tab. To set it at the object level, add a Display Tag to the object, then check Use Level of Detail. Xfrog describes an expression that sets LOD based on distance from the camera in their manual, available here: http://www.xfrogdownloads.com/greenwebNew/support/supportStart.htm It should work whether or not you use Xfrog. Hope this helps, Jack
Ace_Face
Cesar, Did you get a chance to check out the Xfrog documentation that jackb602 posted (above) on creating an Xpresso expression for distance from camera LOD? I read it last night and it looks like it's just what you're looking for.
Ace_Face
I'd like to hear what they say about that also. Originally posted by Cesar R: hey, I am also going to call tech support about the object sizes when created.
