huntch3
hi Ive been drawing some shapes in cad, making sure that each one was a compltely closed polyline, and then importing it into max to extude....but sometimes the shapes can extrude a solid object and sometimes all I can extrude is the spline edge, but no solid object....all the vertices are welded and closed, and the shape is clean in cad...maybe could this mean that in cad two lines might be overlapping? is there an easy way to fix this without having to go back into cad and redrawing the the whole polyline? thanks for reading..... Ricardo Eloy
Try selecting all vertices and welding them.
Dave Buchhofer
or in some strange cases just picking a different vertex and 'Make First' or 'Reverse' on them can clear some of that stuff up. though its usually either a double line segment or a non-welded vert. (hint: Turn on vertex numbers and look for the 1, then weld)
SandmanNinja
Both excellent tips. I think making a new vert First forces Max to renumber all the verts.
amer abidi
There is also a shapecheck utility that has been proven to be indispensible with complex splines.
Dave Buchhofer
neat, never knew about shape check
BrianKitts
There is also a shapecheck utility that has been proven to be indispensible with complex splines. Stellar tip..... I seriously wish I had known this one, I've spent many a lost hour tracing a bad spline.
Dave Buchhofer
and one more tip and my personal fave spline tool.. another little 1 liner, combines the fuze button with the weld button if selection.count > 0 do (try( splineOps.fuse $ ; splineOps.weld $ )catch(print "fuze/weld failure"))
redzuan3828
I know this was the weird thing when you try to add modified to the spline. No form was created and no spline as well. All missing. Actually it not missing. This is the way I'm solve the problem. Select that spline> vertex and go to selection rollout than hit show vertex numbers on display. Search no 1. If the vertex welded that mean two lines was overlapping and you must search and delete that overlapping line...
