alejandroserranomonforte
hi how are u, this is my first post in this forum i have been using and learning vray for 2 weeks and this is my first work. Is a project of a pool and a palapa (i dont know if is the same in english i think yes) i think is no too bad for first time but i think i can do it better i have seen amazing ones, i used vray displacement and vray fur, also is too slow to render so i want to know if anyone of you have experience doing this . Also other thing are the trunks , i dont know why but dont look good, are made with displacement too. both displacements i used 2d mapping. is that correct? sorry i dont know much about this. Thanks a lot Edited July 22, 2009 by alejandroserranomonforte
alejandroserranomonforte
well i decided to try without displacement. i used only vray fur and i think is much better, maybe i need to place more hairs. also the render time came down 10 minutes! keep working in the trunks if u can help me please:P thanks

jkrock3d
Hey there, my only suggestion would be to look for real reference photographs, or see around your backyard to get some detail info about what u want. Take for eg: the trunk or poles they are perfect cylinders wrapped with tiled textures, in real life u wont find such trunks unless its man made so just try deforming the shape a little, give some variations for all 4 by adding ffd box or which ever modifier, of your choice. Well wont bore u any more with too much info. All the best.
Jimy
You could use a similar technique to this... "www.jamesshaw.co.nz/blog/?p=400" using scatter and modelled grass, just change the angles to what's suitable for this. On the trunks vray displacement's probably a go. Customize your bump maps so you have total control on what gets displaced in and out. Or model it.
