rishmantrijo
Hi guys, I recently study this rendering but it seems like it still lacks the lighting i needed for an afternoon scene. Could some can share their valued tips on how it is done, aside form post production? The scene here is lit by an HDRI & a vray sun.

rishmantrijo
Done in max+vray. I have only two main source of light which is the HDRI as the GI & the vray sun as the direct light. But I still feels it lacks the lighting I need for an afternoon scene. I'll try to change a different HDRI that can dulpicate an afternoon lighting & see how it will feed. I have the scene lit in the night with a different HDRI, it looks fine for what I need to achieve. Only the highlight on the glass is distracting which is i knew comes from the hdri map, rotating it will resolve the problem.
Matt McDonald
The sky in your "afternoon" shot looks like some kind of eery storm is blowing in. If that sky is contributing to your lighting solution IMO its easy to see why you can't get the feel that you are looking for. So, short answer: new sky. BTW: I get a kick out of the fact that in the afternoon shot the gal is on the balcony as some random dude walks by. In the night shot, he's on the balcony with her...awww yeah! rishmantrijo
I had this shot with a different HDRI for an afternoon soft shadow scene. I think this one suites what I hand in mind from 5 HDRs that I tried.
amer abidi
Too soft i say! Throwing in a sun and giving it soft shadows will give you a far more convincing result.
rishmantrijo
Actually I had a vray sun in the scene, an HDRI which is attached to a vray dome light. But I have a doubt that the hdri which is attached to the vraydome is overriding the vray sun in shadow casting. I tried several times increasing the intensity of the sun but still I havnt seen it cast stronger shadows on the wall, street lamps & other elements facing the left side of the image. Is there any rule which one will override the other in this kind of scenario?
3D_IC
The lighting is nice on the building, but the sky seems too bright and sunny for the afternoon lighting on the building. Some long shadows to sjow the sun is low in the sky would help. Or try a sky between what you have and the sky attached.
