Noise
Has anyone used the new 3D functionality in Photoshop to texture 3D models in Max ? I am having a look at it but not sure if it is fundamentally possible.
Ricardo Eloy
Partly. I tried it on CS3 (not sure if it has changed in CS4) and it's simply a way to visualize your 3D object inside PS, but when it comes to editing the texture, it opens the regular image file. So, if you're expecting some Body Painting functionality, don't bother.
Noise
I think I am correct with this but please correct me if I am wrong but, in CS4 the 3D functionality is somewhat advanced from what is in CS3 ?

SandmanNinja
From http://www.photoshopcafe.com/cs4/3D.htm: Now we have the long awaited Photoshop CS4 that has upgraded its 3D capabilities greatly from its predecessor. Its 3D engine goes beyond reading the object and its textures. It will allow you to import & add lights to your 3D scene. It will also read and apply Glossiness, Specularity, Bump and Reflection maps. Photoshop reads its texture information off of UV maps (U –Horizontal and V-Vertical). These are basically 2 dimensional images maps that are mapped onto 3 dimensional surfaces. This style of surface mapping allows the most flexibility as to where you apply your textures. Wow - that sounds really good!
Peter M. Gruhn
Something Detailer did that was nice, I don't know if everybody or nobody does it these days - a brush could paint on any of a number of maps at once. "This brush paints colour and bump". I kinda think Mudbox may do that. I kinda think PShop doesn't. Kinda. Think.
