Dave Buckley
guys i want to use hdri's with the daylight system. i have been using vray a lot after making the switch from mental ray to expand my knowledge. now i've gone back to MR and forgotten some of my old tricks. i have a hdri collection (i have background plate, then three .exr's in cross (cubic) layout, these are diffuse, reflect and highlights, i also have the .exr for the lighting) i'm lighting using the daylight system mr sun and mr sky, with mr photographic exposure. i just can't remember where to put these hdri's or how they should be integrated into the scene. it was a lot easier with vray i believe. another twist. they are night time hdri's. how does this affect the exposure? Clanger
What I've been doing seems to work although not totally sure it's what your supposed to do is: Make the sun inactive plus put the hdri map in the map slot of the skylight parameters.
Dave Buckley
yeh that kind of works, that's what i've just tried. if i'm honest i can do it with daylight, leave mrsun on change skylight to normal skylight and put environment hdri in there. reduce mrsun to 0.00? change time to time of day i want to match hdri (its dusk) then adjust exposure value to suit time of day. only problem is that i then get the black background, can't remember how to get the background hdri visible again. Clanger
only problem is that i then get the black background, can't remember how to get the background hdri visible again. You can still put a copy of the map in the regular environment slot and it'll show up as a background only.
Dave Buckley
hmmm, weird? it doesn't it just goes black. i have the background image visible in the viewport, its positioned as i'd like. hold on, i'll post viewport shot and resulting render
Dave Buckley
did it, i'd forgotten to increase RGB values and most importantly the output of the HDRI being used in the background to compensate for the exposure, ended up using daylight system, photographic exposure, mrsun, normal skylight
