Modifying model unassigns all sub-object materials

I am creating a 3d floor plan and have come across an issue. I have started adding materials as sub-object materials to the building meaning certain areas of the model have different material IDs. The problem is when I modify the model, such as modifying faces or using boolean to add or subtract, all the sub-object materials unassign. How can I modify the model as I go along I don't have to reassign all the materials again. The arrow in the image shows a face that I want to split in two so as to have two tone for example.

It looks like you have your materials UVW mapped to properly fit your geometry. Any changes you make on top of the UVW Map modifier in the modifier stack are going to screw up your mapping, especially if you are changing sub object ID's by dividing geometry.

Firstly, I would wait until your modeling is complete until applying materials to sub-objects. But if you can't, for whatever reason, make sure your uvw map modifier is above the effected geometry modifier in the stack.

Thanks for the comment. In an architectural office however there are nothing but changes. Maybe drawing each room individually so that the modifier stack doesn't affect the whole model. There has to be an easier way I just don't know what it is.

Unfortunately, change is the nature of the beast.

When doing ProBoolean's, if you check "no edge removal", under Advanced Options, you will maintain you materials, because your edge geometry remains.

At least that will help you out with one type of modification.

PS...in your image, I believe you are pointing at the wood floor. Simply connecting the two edges to divide the floor up is not going to mess your floor material up or material ID's.
