clubber2k
Well after fighting with a stubborn spline max crashed and I couldn't restore this bug but this has happen to me a few times and I have had enough ! I'm a bit embarrassed since I feel this should be a simple task but I cant seem to go around this phenomenon.. I've been modeling for a while and sometimes I use spline with snapping to fill in an annoying gap I find when I'm already in rendering faze, this might be bad practice but sometimes you need a fast fix. anyway, for some reason sometimes the spline extrudes in the wrong direction and I can't find how to control it. even if I flip it or change its position it changes the to the new wrong extrude direction (ahh!) I've add an illustration showing the correct spline extrude direction with a red arrow and the direction the spline extruded with this "bug" with a more "fat ugly" red arrow. maybe this will look familiar to someone. I have searched google and this forum for something like it and found nothing, could this be happening only to me?
Gus_Rayvus
It is caused by the way the spline was created, normally in the wrong axis. To fix this draw a rectangle or spline object in a fixed viewport in the direction you want it to extrude. "top" for example attach the "bad spline" to the rectangle then delete the spline of the rectangle. Basically you are transferring the axis information of the correctly drawn spline. Then all works the way you expect. As a side note, to recreate you problem draw a rectangle in the front viewport. then draw one in the top viewport. Attach the front viewport rectangle to the top view rectangle. then delete the top rectangle spline. If you try to extrude the front it will extrude in the "wrong" way. clubber2k
Wow that makes perfect sense! I can't believe I found nothing about it online, I hope this doesn't mean everyone figured it out alone but me I did switch viewports while creating it the first time so I guess that what made it extrude the wrong way, second time I worked cleaner. I haven't tried you idea yet but I'm pretty positive it will work since it makes max logic.. Thanks for your help! Edited August 2, 2009 by clubber2k spelling.. Peter M. Gruhn
Happened to me just the other day. Again. But this time I solved it. Same idea as Peter posted, but I just used autogrid to draw on a nearby correct surface.
