I will do that tomorrow. My Max2010 is at home.

One thing I just remembered that might effect this, is the model started life as a Autocad model. Be interesting to see if that is an issue.

I will start a new thread on this issue so it doesn't over take this one.

I tried a very heavy sketch-up model (1.4 million pollies) and came in like a dream. One thing that sure does help is having a cleanly modeled sketch-up file.

The SAT file is good too. I exported an extreamly detailed Revit model as SAT an d sucked it into Max. It took a while but came in, Now to get it to render :D

Ken when you say this will be the basis for future imports of CAD data, are you able to elaborate, because FBX for Revit Sucks big time.

I've got a problem with the new exr.

i was using the an exr as a displacement map. setting the white point at 1500. which was the highest point in my terrain.

after installing the new connection, it screwed it all up. then i went to bring it in again only to find that the colour correction is clamped at 100! whats the point of this?

I've now converted to hdr and its all working fine. but this new exr reader is useless for displacement maps now.

on a side note though i do like sketch up importing.

The color correction part was added to support the "old" workflow and Design did not realize that the spinners where clamped. This is a bug to us. However, the most correct and predictable method to increase or decrease levels in the EXR file is to actually either use the output part of the image rollout or a color correction map.

Increasing the spinner "RGB Level" in the Output dialog will multiply or divide the incoming pixel values by a given factor. The user can still do what they need, only via the “real” tools as opposed to the “hidden” ones in the bitmap IO dialog.

NOT at all impressed with the sketchup import tool.

Cant use it with file link manager. Cant select layers to import. How do you revise and update the model. Open up a second max, import new model, delete whats not changed and merge into original max scene. More hassle then its worth.

What we really need are more options in the dwg export in SU. Explode all groups and/or components when exporting would be great.

I'm sorry, we don't offer Student subscriptions nor is it available for non-subscribers. However, in the past, we have taken subscription plug-ins and released them with the next version of the product. We don't do this with all things, but it has been a generall practice. I can't say more than that publicly.
