Sky Portal Trouble (transparency)

I'm just experimenting the transparency of the sky portals, and i'm getting confused.

if the transparency colour is at 1,1,1

i get reflections in my glossy floor regardless of whether the sky portal is visisible to render or not

if i then change the transparency to 0.1,0.1,0.1 i can see the physical sky through the window but if i have visible to render turned on i don't get my sky portal reflection in the floor?

if i make it NOT visible to renderer then i get the reflection in the floor.

and if i change the transparency to 0,0,0 then i can't see me sky at all, just a black opening, yet if i have visible to renderer turned off, i can still see it's reflection in the floor.

not too sure how the transparency is working.

it seems as though if have it set at 0,0,0 then it just becomes opaque. but i don't understand the whole visible and not visible and the way its treating the reflection if my portal is 'opaque'.

am i right in thinking that it's not the sky portal reflecting in the floor? i believe it to be the physical sky right? i hope so then it means i'm not going mad.

so if i have my portal completely black 0,0,0 and have it visible to renderer there is no reflection because the opaque portal is stopping the physical sky coming through? if i make it not visible to renderer then i get my reflection because technically my invisible portal is not officially invislbe :)

i hope your confused, because i am :)
