mfured20
Hey Guys: My partner is just learning Modo and is loving it. I work in Max/vRay, but in all honesty, I am not especially good at modeling. We are trying to figure out the best way to export complex models from Modo to max so I can render them. .obj works ok, but it doesnt bring any UVW data with it. I have heard that .fbx works, but I havent gotten a chance to try it out. Does anyone else have this workflow? If so, what do you use? Thanks a ton ladies and gents! William Alexander
Know the workflow well .... from Modo 101 when another application was the only way to render GI and such. However I've moved away from Max almost entirelly these days. OBJ is good except the UV issues. LWO works fairly well, but need a plugin for max. Had one I believe for Max8 when exporting from Modo 201ish. LWO export works well for c4d, but...lol.. this is about max FBX used it to export to max and c4d about the time AutoDesk snatched it up and the almighty cross application format changed a bit. I have not used it with Modo in a year and it was not to max. Project I just worked on in Modo was exported to XSI and it "worked", but it was not an archviz project. Best thing to do is run a couple simple scenes into max with UVs and image maps. See what if anything you need to adjust in Max. The workflow kind of bites when, imho, the UV tools in Modo are really easy and fast. Part of the reason for pulling away from Max as a primary Non-effects app for me. I'd post this question up in the Modo Forum here or over at luxology forums for the most current expereinces
Thablanch
THe UV is an issue for Modo and Lightwave, as when you export, they are not getting baked with the geometry. Best ways to go are still either FBX or OBJ, but either or, UV will not follow, unless you have a proper unwrap in the modeling application. If you find any kind of script / plugin. that can do it, let us know.
