Which image format and why??

Just wanted to see which image format people are exporting image sequences in and what their decisions are behind choosing that format.

EXR is cropping up a lot the more people i speak to along with RPF but i've not used either.

I'm looking into the benefits of different formats and trying to decide which one i should go for to try and streamline my workflow

Cheers

i've been using TGA and TIF so far

JPEG if I'm not really going to do any post work, or TGA if I need the alpha. EXR is only useful if you need to do major exposure adjustments in post and RPF is for if you're going to be adding motion blur or altering the depth of field in Combustion. You need to make sure you include all the relevant passes though and each frame can easily end up around 100mb each!

90% of the time I use JPEG or TGA for stills and 100% of the time for animations to be honest.

16-bit PNG can also be useful for Zdepth as it avoids banding in the gradients.

Depends on the job. I generally always render out a VrayWireColor pass to make selecting objects easier in Photoshop, a ZDepth pass for either DOF or adding subtle fog/haze. Sometimes I'll do a VRay ExtraTex with a dirt map in it for occlusion and very occasionally I'll do a reflection pass if I'm compositing people in behind glass and want to put the reflection back in on top.
