Creationtwentytwo
Hi there, I'm currently working on a project that involves large expanses of blue engineering bricks. And I've come across a problem I always run into on builds involving primarily bricks, and that is, how can one make it look more interesting? There are usually plenty of options I find to liven up a flat wall, IE dirt maps, ivy, minor variations in texture, but I'm having so much trouble making this one look good. I think it's due to the fact blue bricks have so much natural variation. Has anyone got any ideas as to what I could do to make it look a bit more appealing? Bearing in mind this is a Visualisation of a brand new build with very simple geometry. Many thanks.
Aaron2004
Could you put taller vegetation in front of it casting shadows on the wall? The shadows could break up the monotony. Aaron
Creationtwentytwo
Ah that's a good idea, I suppose I hadn't considered using shadows. I will give it a try! Thanks again.
Claudio Branch
I have always found that a well-placed lens flare can liven up any boring shot. A flock of birds can help too...

Ricardo Eloy
Also, if you are into ZBrush, there's this semi-tutorial about making bricks that looks really awesome. http://zbrushcentral.com/zbc/showthread.php?t=069232

GordonHo
you could try to mix different noise maps together - perhaps as shaders to avoid tiling - and use them for displacement. it should give some irregularity into the bricks. the same can be done on the color slot, though it takes quite some tuning. of course adding more objects to the scene is another approach. you can enhance an image quite alot using different ps techniques. as well as placing trees and especially entourage people over the image.
