Molly Lee
I am new to this forum and this is the first time I post here. This site attracts me in many ways. Thank you,Jeff, for creating such space for us. As a person who has been involved into 3D architecture visualization since 2004, it is a regret that I have not found this site earlier. All over these years, I have worked with many many top artists in Beijing to provide highest quality rendering service to architects all around the world. Most of 3D artists can not speak English, so they are invisible to the world outside China. However, they deserve to be known for their professions and excellent work. That is why I decide to set up 3D artists union and introduce them to the world. Our website will be ready soon. And I will bring here some of the most excellent 3D renderings. My honor to know you all.

mattclinch
i see you work for CrystalCG. perhaps it should be called the Beijing 3D Artists Union so as not to be misleading?

JDillon
3D Artist Union??? Thanks but no thanks. The terms "Free"lance and Union don't seem to make much sense to me. Especially a union from Communist China.
Crazy Homeless Guy
This is not a labor union. This sounds more like a network for contractors to come together to get jobs done. I may be wrong though.
Ernest Burden III
It's probably worth waiting to see what they put together before criticizing them for it. I appreciated the comment about artist not speaking English and therefore being 'invisible'. The internet is heavily English-biased.
Molly Lee
Thanks,Matt,Devin,Jason,Travis and Ernest. Your attentions are appreciated. It makes us feel that we are doing something that people care about. Matt,it is great pleasure that we find out here someone in London has ever heard of CrystalCG which is the biggest 3D architecture visualization company in China now. Except CrystalCG, there are hundreds of talented 3D artists in Beijing working in other studios or as freelancers. Our plan is to bring their works to world public attentions and keep them updated with what is happening in this industry around the world. We dont expect to be connected with any political issues. We are nice, friendly and hardworking like you all. Only that we are closed to ourselves before and are open to the world now. I have posted some samples in gallery. Unfortunately,I am not allowed to post the website link here. You are welcomed to find and review them in gallery. We use 3D max and photoshop to creat photorealistic effect. Devin Johnston
I'm still not clear on what your union is going to do for it's members, are you representing them in contract negotiations or settling disputes for them? Give us some specifics about what the union's goals and responsibilities will be.

Koper
sounds to me like a mediator between the Chinese visualizers and the rest of the globe, and a way for the rest of the globe to use their services through the mediator. Imo, that means an easier way for our clients to switch to a Chinese based visualizer, maybe for more money, or maybe less money.
SandmanNinja
I somehow doubt it would be for more money
Noise
China has recieved alot of speculation mainly from the fear that westerners will lose jobs due to competetive overseas pricing. Now that China has a voice I personally welcome your inclusion Molly into the international arch viz forums - at least now we can debate and understand where we are all coming from. Molly, a few questions which I hope you will be able to enable us to understand your position on; A. Crystal Cg is the biggest arch viz firm in the world (not just China) can you give us an insight into how the company has become so pre-eminent and where the company is going ? B. Crystal CG have opened an office in London (some time ago) and secured the contract to provide the Cg for the Olympics there. It is remarkable that you achieved this in light of the wealth of international talent in London, how did Crystal do this and was it a planned strategy ? C. If you are establishing a Trade Union which is based in China - how do you intend to include CG visualisers in other countries ? How much inclusion do other countries have in your plans ? Thanks for your inclusion in our community ! Edited August 27, 2009 by Noise
Devin Johnston
China has recieved alot of speculation mainly from the fear that westerners will lose jobs due to competetive overseas pricing. No that's wrong, people in western countries are seeing lots of their potential work going overseas because China's pricing is so uncompetitive, in fact I'd classify it as undercutting. What boggles my mind is they could probably get just as much work if they only lowered their prices by 10-20%, instead they charge 80-90% less than what a company in the west could charge. There's no way to compete with this and as a result they lower the fee for all of us. If your Union seaks to raise wages I'm all for that, if your looking to enforce the status quoe then it's not going to be very attractive to most people here. jkletzien
Maxer, if it is actually a union of artists in China, than this is the day you've been waiting for, as unions will raise wages/prices. That said, I think Koper is right and Molly really is presenting an industry group, or consortium of artists sharing a more developed translation service. Noise
I agree with you Maxer but, this is the tip of the ice berg as far as I am concerned with regard to pricing. Many other factors are linked with this and I am interested in opening a discussion to understand them.
Nic H
i have a load of really boring buildings to model. if this helps them get done cheap its a goer. just wait until someone undercuts the union. things will get even cheaper.

Kyle
It's probably worth waiting to see what they put together before criticizing them for it. I appreciated the comment about artist not speaking English and therefore being 'invisible'. The internet is heavily English-biased. I agree with your comments Ernset, but initially it does seem like marketing to me, especially with being from CrystalCG, the so called 'largest' CG company in the world and to come across as being so naive. As if nobody has ever heard of them? They did the work on the Beijing Olympics and have also won the London Olympic bid. So how could no body have heard of them? EddieLeon
Molly, I look forward to seeing your website when it's ready. However, I recommend you first purchase the domain you listed before someone else does. I checked and it appears http://www.3dartistsunion.com is still available for purchase. Good luck with your new company. Eddie
