I'm going to assume you mean if you do a sub contracting job for another studio and they require the max file for what ever reason do you include bought models such as cars, trees, furniture or do you strip the file down?

If that is the question then no I don't, I would strip the model down. No way is anyone getting my textures etc... I paid good money for. BUT I do know people who have sub contracted out and they did receive the max file with a heap of good models/textures included.

It depends on the individual case. I do a number of jobs for larger visualisation firms and understand that I am merely supplying a textured model to be used by them as they wish. This is what they are paying for and I wouldn't get the job otherwise. As long as both parties are aware up front as to what the deliverables entail then everyone should be happy.

I don't understand. How often do you use the same building in a visualisation. If a third party is paying you to model it for them to then complete the rendering and visualisation I don't see why they would not use you to model the next building as it is unlikely to be the same build. Perhaps if it is an interior populated with your own assets that they then went on to use again there might be grounds to worry. However with the amount of interior assets that are readily supplied by manufacturers for free I can't see the reasoning behind being precious over a model. Usually the design has been provided by the client/architect so I would say the majority of the intellectual property resides with the designer. The jobs I do as overspill for the larger visualisations companies I look upon as the easiest jobs i do. No client interaction, just a straight build (often untextured). The client then takes the fiddly jobs from me lighting/rendering/end user amendments.

Perhaps because I also do work for games companies who must own the assets after I build them I'm not as protective over the assets I build. If your costing is right then I don't see the problem.
