markf
I don't have Revit but I'm trying to get a Revit file from an architect. She says she can't figure out how to export as fbx. Can anyone explain the export or save as process so I can let her know how to do it? Thanks?
Dave Buckley
open 3d view she needs to go to export>fbx really that simple. unless she is using revit as a viewing tool, i.e. she has no license, she will therefore not be able to export/save anything. and if she is using a copy of licensed revit in industry i'd be really worried at the fact she doesn't know how to export an FBX model, quite worrying
markf
Dave, Thanks very much for your reply! She is an Architect and has a licensed copy of Revit. Yeah, I'm a bit worried but I'd like to be able to help her and to do the work
Brian Cassil
The key as I understand it is to open a 3D view of the revit file. That is not always obvious to everyone.
Dave Buckley
i fully agree although i did put that as my first step because i saw it as the most important thing
markf
Thanks Brian and Dave, That was the problem. She wasn't in the 3D view when trying to export.
hockley91
The FBX file will be triangulated when imported. It's a mess to sort through. I prefer .dwg export with ACIS 3D Solids. It's a lot cleaner and non triangulated. Of course this has all been talked about on a different thread, but just wanted to warn you all. There's a MAX script to fix the triangulation, but that's on another thread....
