Crazy Homeless Guy
Is anyone here using Real VNC with 3dsMax? I realize this sounds like a question that might be better suited to the Max forum, and maybe it should be moved there. Not sure. I recently started using that instead of Remote Desktop to connect to our farm machines. For rendering it is fine, but about once a week I use Max remotely on one of the farm machines to do operations on models that take time to process. I was able to use the OpenGL driver with Remote Desktop to see the Max window. With Real VNC, neither OpenGl or Direct X display the viewports. Any suggestions? Dave Buchhofer
I think i had luck with ultravnc for that, i haven't had to try it in quite a while however. lately I've been using logmein for remoting a lot from home/work and back and viewports work fine there
Crazy Homeless Guy
Unfortunately Real VNC is what we use at corporate level, so making a major switch would not be an easy route.
Dave Buchhofer
Thats a bit of a shame, RealVNC is the base package, but since its open source, there are 'further' packages out that add functions that real is missing
Crazy Homeless Guy
Yeah, it uses it to manage all of the computers. I was given access because we further locked down our systems, making Remote Desktop not function properly. Do to problems in the past, our IT dept keeps everything as secure as possible. On one hand I don't blame them, though on the other hand it presents a new set of problems that must be worked around. On a side note, ...whatever happened to Max's "software" driver option in 3dsmax? It seems like mine has been ghosted out the past couple of releases. Maybe it has something to do with my current hardware/software configuration, or maybe Autodesk just stopped functionality of it?
