Nic H
except id never use DMC DMC, too slow. also never tried progressive path tracing either, might be worth a look.

Brian Smith
Although the irmap+lc combo is what I use 90% of the time for stills, a straight DMC+DMC is great for animations. We use Respower to render all animations and with their subscription program, you can render animations of any length for one low flat rate. In fact, for $260, you can render a limitless number of animations of any length and regardless of how long it takes to complete them...provided you submit the animations within 24 hours of purchasing. Because of this, you can bypass the need to render and upload large irmaps and lc files and bypass the need for the many settings that need to be experimented with for both. With the DMC, all you need to worry about is the Subdivs and Noise thresh, which is an easy set to figure out. Just upload the one file and render. You can even submit multiple jobs of the same scene while experimenting with different settings. As long as you don't mind the extra time to wait, it's worth it...especially when you get several hundred machines working on it at the same time. Progressive path tracing is also great, when speed isn't critical. You can even use it to clean up areas of a irmap/lc rendering that has too much noise or too little detail in certain areas.
