bmcgonigle
My question pertains to the various pieces of entourage i see in the finished works posted to the site. I see very detailed things such as flip flops to potatoes to various nic-nacs placed here and there. Many of these items are very detailed, realistic looking and shadow casting. So my questions are as follows: 1. Are these models or are they pshop addins? 2. Where do you obtain these entourage detials? 3. If they are models, how do they impact render times if at all? I'm looking forward to your replies! Thanks B
Devin Johnston
I'd say the majority of them are models obtained from sites like evermotion or turbosquid and render times will go up any time you add more of anything to a scene. There are lots of benefits to having a full 3D scene with all of it's entourage included having a little higher render time is a small sacrifice. The most obvious benefit is no post processing but you also get all shadows and reflections in their proper place and if you need to render the model from a different angle or even do an animation everything is already there. GordonHo
for us its different. timewise our images are roughly 50% 3d and 50% post production. all simple geometric stuff is placed in 3d. meaning tv, lamps, shelfs etc. basically everything thats not organic. we normally plant dummies for organic stuff, but replace it completly in the post process. the main reason are: 1. scene size 2. visual control we specially place alot of humans in our scenes, which are simply not available as 3d models (at least if aiming for some quality). the visual control is a big point as well, if you're familiar with ps its quite fast to place all the entourage in the scene. grass, trees, people etc. we mostly change the overall look and feel of render, aiming at a emotion in the image. bmcgonigle
ok, thats good info from both of you. Thanks for taking the time to give me some direction on this. I guess I'll need to start building my 3d entourage file from the sites you've mentioned and work on my ps post-processing skills. Thanks again!
