Sharp007
Folks, First post so be gental. When I import my CAD model to Max, items which are suposed to be curves (ie corners of roadside kerbs) seem to become facetted?????? Any idea how to fix this? Sharp007
Ok typically once I have posted a question, I figured it out. For anyone else who is struggling, you need to change the "MAXIMUM SURFACE DEVIATION FOR 3D SOLIDS" setup in the import options (see attached). In my case I have set this to 0.1mm which gives me a nice curve.
armilla
Hi Gavin. I don't usually import CAD geometry into Max, as I do all my modelling in Max. However, I do import 2D DWGs to trace over and there are a few things worth checking to avoid faceting of curves. In the Import Options dialogue box, make sure you're importing with the correct units and you may have to tick "Rescale". Secondly, in the Import Options dialogue, ensure "Curve steps" is on 10. Finally, if the CAD model is created too far away from the origin 0,0,0 it can end up faceting curves when imported into Max, so it's best to move it to the origin in your CAD package before taking it into Max. Hope that all makes sense and helps you to resolve your problems.

SandmanNinja
Hi Gavin and Welcome to the forum. Are you using 3ds' File Link Manager or the Legacy Import option? I made an AutoCAD profile based on one of 3dats' awesome ArchViz books and it works great.

erickdt
You need to adjust the value for "maximum deviation for 3D solids" down (in the import autocad dialogue). I usually have mine set to .005-.001.
shamsdesigner
adjust display resolution go to autocad option display- display resolution arc and circle smothness 250, segment in a polyline curve 10, render objects smoothness 10, contour lines per face 10.
